My generic top-down sock pattern with heel flap heel

*I have made a correction to one of the numbers in the turning the heel section.  Change is reflected in pink.*

Materials:
Size 1 DPN’s
Fingering weight yarn
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker if desired


CO 64 st and join in a round, being careful not to twist
Knit in K1, P1 rib for about 1 inch
Change to stockinette stitch (knit every round) and knit to desired leg length


Transfer 32 st to one needle. You will knit back and forth on this needle for the heel flap.

Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, K to end
Row 2 (WS): Sl 1, P to end

Repeat these 2 rows 14 times and then repeat row 1 an extra time (29 rows total, ending with a RS row)


Row 1: Sl 1, P16, P2tog, P1, turn work
Row 2: Sl 1, K3, SSK, K1, turn work
Row 3: Sl 1, P to one stitch before gap, P2tog, P1, turn work
Row 4: Sl 1, K to one stitch before gap, SSK, K1, turn work

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 18 st rem


Pick up at least 15 stitches along right side of heel flap (needle 1)
K across next 32 st (needle 2)
Pick up 15 stitches (or equal to the amount picked up on the right side) along left side of heel flap. K9 heel st onto same needle. (needle 3)
Move remaining 9 heel st to needle 1
24 st on needles 1 and 3, 34 st on needle 2


Round 1: K to last 3 st on needle 1, K2tog, K1; K across needle 2; K1, SSK, K to end of needle 3
Round 2: K all st

Repeat these two rounds until you have 16 st each on needles 1 and 3

Foot:

Continue in stockinette stitch until sock measures 2” less than desired length

Toe:

Round 1: K to last 3 st on needle 1, K2tog, K1; K1, SSK, K to last 3 st on needle 2, K2tog, K1; K1, SSK, K to end of needle 3 – 4 st dec
Round 2: K all st

Repeat rounds 1 and 2, 8 times (32 st rem)

Repeat round 1 another 4 times (16 st rem)

Transfer stitches from needle 3 to needle 1, 8 st on each needle.
Kitchener stitch toe and weave in ends to finish
